Abstract

The meat of poultry has been prominent in recent years as food for their protein quality and affordable price. The poultry industry has the highest growth in production volume from all other meat sectors in Brazil. Thus, the poultry industry has gained increasing importance in applied research in major research centers. Because of this great interest in food and thinking about the risk to public health, recently the European Union (EU) banned the use of prophylactic antimicrobial additives in animal feed. With that and coupled with intensive raising system in poultry, previously controlled diseases have become reemerging, one of the most important and reemerging diseases of great concern in Brazil and UE is the avian necrotic enteritis (NE). NE is a disease that affects poultry at 2-6 weeks of life, its primary etiologic agent is Clostridium perfringens, a gram positive, toxigenic, spore-forming anaerobic and growth. It is estimated that the worldwide loss due to subclinical necrotic enteritis exceed $ 2 billion. Studies show that stress has a huge importance in the development of NE, but little is known about what modulates this development. Considering Brazil is a subtropical country, supports the premise that studies focusing on aspects of neuroimmune relationships in broiler chickens subjected to heat stress are important for directing rational grounds for reversal of any changes triggered by heat in particular in the intestinal mucosa of animals. Among them, particular attention NE gains, since the heat stress possibly triggering the onset of disease.
