Abstract

During the century. XX Brazilian urbanism lived a strong movement peripherization driven by market forces and expansion of the road layout. This growth driven by interests of a private nature reduced the city to dispersed urban fabric, a network of infra - structure and inadequate transportation and a strong cadre of social and spatial segregation. Contemporary research report, by consensus, the benefits of more compact cities - that incorporate and optimize the existing infrastructure, providing a more harmonious and sustainable interaction between society and space. From the perspective of finding solutions that meet the new demands of the metropolis, regarding the implementation of social housing in urban centers consolidated, the Municipal Housing convene the National Tender Project Architecture and Urbanism Renova SP for 22 areas the city of São Paulo in 2011. The objective of this research is to critically analyze the outcome of this contest, in order to enhance its contribution to the national debate related to the theme of the HIS.
