This project purposes the synthesis of novel benzoporphyrin type derivatives, in particular a new class of compounds named pirimidinoporphyrins. The main objective is to expand the chemistry of heterocyclic compounds and explore new photossensitizer structures with improved UV-Vis spectra for photodynamic therapy (PDT) applications. From the synthetic perspective, we purpose the construction of novel pirimidinoporphyrin compounds starting from pyrroles containing an uracil core. We will study the uracilpyrrole tetramerization reactions for obtainment of the new cited pirimidinoporphyrins. Initially, we will give focus on the synthesis of tetrapirimidinoporphyrins using four uracilpyrrol units. Nevertheless, approaches involving the synthesis of non-symmetrical systems will also be considered and investigated.In addition, all the compounds will be extensively characterized and physical and photophysical preliminary studies on photodynamic activity will also be performed. The most promising candidates for PDT applications should be further evaluated in association with research groups of PDT area, which collaborate with our recently established group at the Chemistry Department - UFSCar.
