Abstract

Achilles tendon of triceps surae is constituted for dense connective tissue, which function is transmitting force of contraction of muscle proteins to osseous tissue. Tendons are fundamental to skeletal movements and stability of the ligament and joint due bone insertion. This interface region between tendinous and osseous tissue is called bone-tendon junction. Although described the way of the bone-tendon junction, little know about its ultrastructural characteristics, possible morphological changes and functional due to aging. Aim this study is analyze structural characteristics of the bone-tendon junction of triceps surae of the adult and aged Wistar rats. Will be used 30 Wistar rats, arranged in two groups, group A adults 4 months-old (n=15), and group B elderly 2 years-old (n=15). Samples will be dissected and processed to analyzes of the light microscopy, using the staining Hematoxylin-Eosin, Azo-Carmine and Picrosirius and methods of the scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy to ultrastructural analysis. Results of this study can contribute to clarify possible morphological and functional changes, thus prevent injuries and orientate therapeutic approaches.
