Abstract This project aims at the development and application of binary and ternary electrocatalysts Pt, Pd, Au, Sn, and Ni nanostructures supported metal oxides such as TiO2 and Sb2O5.SnO2 and can be structured in nanotube form, with or without carbon for oxidation of small organic molecules with the purpose of application of liquid fuel cells directly. These materials will be prepared by methods of chemical reduction, sol-gel and / or mix of both types. Will then be characterized by different physical techniques such as transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray. The oxidation reactions of small organic molecules will be studied by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, single direct liquid fuel cells tests, and infrared spectroscopy in situ. Using these electrocatalysts and different supports it is thought that the results may contribute to the commercial viability of fuel cells for direct liquid, which currently still has kinetic electrocatalysts with low efficiency, durable and somewhat dependent on platinum.
