Abstract This project is devoted to the production of electrocatalyst for the operation in direct liquid fuel cells (DLFC), where the fuels are small organic molecules, such as short chains alcohols. The catalyst used in this project will be composed by different metals, being the Pt the standard one. By combining the Pt with others metal such as Sn and Rh and its oxides, we will be able to develop a methodology to induced an synergic effect in the system, and as a consequence, reduce the production cost, strongly associated to the presence of Pt. We will use supports based on Carbon, Ti and ATO or ITO to diminish the effect of resistivity in the cell and increasing the efficiency of the cell. Furthermore, the characterization tests will be performing through MEV, MET, DRX, electrochemical techniques and experiments in fuel cells directly connected to liquids. These tests will be used to verify the composition and activity of the studied materials. In addition, tests based on chromatography and studies for FTIR (in situ) in real systems. These studies will allow testing the efficiency of the electrocatalyst and the possible products of the reaction involved in this processes. It is work to mention that the main objective of this project is to look up for a viable system of DLFC. | |
