Abstract

This project addresses the process of territorial development of Santa Maria de Jetibá, a municipality in Espirito Santo located and occupied predominantly by Pomeranians. Considering three important carecteristics: the territorial isolation (physical and cultural), the predominant presence of Pomeranos, and also that the Santa Maria de Jetibá always presented different level of development as to the region in which it is located, the main goal in this project is to understand the process of transformation of this territory, which was economically underdeveloped, and now it is a prosperous and became a economic development model to the government state. A territory that is different from the others, it stands out as a producer of fruits and vegetables to the domestic market, and not as a coffee producer as is prevalent in the Espirito Santo. Also on the other hand it constitutes as a very closed social group, extremely similar, united and that preserved their own cultural characteristics. For those reasons it helped the establishment of a network of relations capable of promoting development of the territory. (AU)
