Abstract

A work like that of Florestan Fernandes, which represents one of the main matrix of Brazilian sociology, it is still open to new readings and new attempts of interpretation. Therefore, I am interested in undertaking a reading of part of Florestan's work, in order to contribute to the systematization and interpretation of his work, considering how it is related to education. The issue of education, always so dear to the sociologist, is recurrent in his work. Given the vast production of the author, I chose to focus my analysis on the work produced by Florestan during his academic formative period (1941 - 1953), establishing, as a starting point, his admission into the Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras (FFCL) of the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1941, and, as an ending point, the defense of his livre-docência thesis in 1953. I intend to develop a critical and systematical analysis of the author's works that fall within this defined period, with the aim of understanding how, in his analysis of Folklore in the city of São Paulo and of the Tupinambá Society, Florestan Fernandes also analyses the theme of education, identifying the sociological categories and thesis employed by him to examine the education. It is an internalist analysis of selected works of Florestan Fernandes in order to reach a deeper understanding of the approach properly sociological of the education conducted by the author.(AU)
