Abstract

This post-doctorate research project, being developed at the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Sao Paulo and supervised by Prof. Dr. Carlos Roberto Monteiro de Andrade, fits into the historiography of the field of planning and deals with the movement of ideas of regional planning between Brazil and the United States in the period between 1920 and 1950, focusing on the issue of exploitation and conservation of natural resources in the regional planning.The research is organized based on four main areas in which we can detect the movement of ideas between Brazil and the United States: the ideals of american regional planning in the years 1920 to 1940 and its relationship with the conservation movement, the forms of international cooperation between Brazil and the United States in the 1940s and 1950s, policies and experiences of regional planning in Brazil and the United States in the years 1930 to 1950 and its relation to the natural resources exploitation and conservation, the professional dialogue between Brazil and the United States through congresses, publications, technical visits.
