Abstract

This project proposes the design and construction of a laser-based instrument in free space and in waveguides for spectroscopy and microscopy inside high-pressure cells. Initially, the high-pressure cell will be adapted to enable optical measurements in situ. Afterward, the resulting instrument will be used to perform a preliminary in situ characterization of the onset of asphaltene precipitation as a function of the temperature, pressure, and chemical composition of the mixture containing crude oils. The measurements will be complemented by analyses of correlations between morphology and electronic/vibrational structure.(AU)
