Abstract

The objectives are: (i) estimate the prevalence of high blood pressure (HBP) in adolescents aged 13-18 years from ten countries; (ii) to analyze the sociodemographic and behavioral factors associated with this outcome. Methods: This project is a multicenter collaborative study conducted by Brazilian and Europe researchers with standardized procedures for sampling, recruitment and data collection. The school-based survey were conducted with probability sampling in high school students from Brazil and nine European countries. Brazilian data are from the research "Cardiovascular risk factors: biological and behavioral indicators" and the data from European countries are "Healthy lifestyle in Europe by nutrition in adolescence cross-sectional study". Outcome for this project is HBP, diagnosed by measuring levels of systolic and diastolic pressure by validated method for this population. The independent variables will be examined are: country, age, type of school, parental education, parental employment status, level of physical activity, sedentary behavior, eating habits, regular consumption of tobacco and drinking alcohol and nutritional status. To analyze the magnitude of associations between exposures and the outcome will be applied to Poisson regression with robust variance, through a hierarchical conceptual model will be developed. (AU)
