Abstract

The main theory to elucidate the parenchyma destruction of emphysema, is the imbalance between proteinases and antiproteinases. The effect of proteinase inhibitor, extracted from Brazilian plants, on elastase-induced emphysema still unknown. The aim of this project is evaluate if BbCI is able to inhibit the membrane-bound proteinases on leukocyte surface. This project complement the evaluation of the BbCI treatment on experimental emphysema, and may be relevant for new therapeutical approaches on COPD treatment. (AU)
