Abstract

Certain clonal types as well as specific serotypes of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans seem to be related with aggressive periodontitis, indicating that the virulence potential should vary among strains. Thus, to contribute to the understanding of the role of variable virulence of A. actinomycetemcomitans, this study aims to evaluate the transcriptomes of A. actinomycetemcomitans JP2-like and non-JP2 serotype b lineages in vitro. In addition, the peri-implant response to implants inoculated with A. actinomycetemcomitans JP2-like and non-JP2 serotype b lineages will be evaluated in a in vivo experimental peri-implantitis model by analyzing characterization the Th subsets (Th17 and Treg) and their associated cytokines in peri-implant mucosal tissues in response to A. actinomycetemcomitans biofilm on titanium implants and the induction of bone resorption by micro-CT evaluation, with concomitant 3D reconstruction of peri-implant bone. Afterwards, the data of the in vivo experiments will be correlated with expression of virulence associated genes. (AU)
