Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of proanthocyanidin (PA) and different temperatures to solvent volatilization of adhesive systems on the modulus of elasticity (ME) of the hybrid layer. The occlusal surfaces of the third molars human will be ground flat with no. 320 grit silicon carbide abrasive paper to remove part of the enamel (Buehler, Lake Bluff,IL). The teeth that will be used in this study will have their roots and the oclusal surfaces sectioned and discarded. Teeth will be sectioned into 0.5 mm thick beams (n=5 beams per tooth) in the mesio-distal direction. The slices will be randomly divided into 12 groups (n = 12 slices) according to the dentin treatment after demineralization (application of PA and control-without applicationof PA), adhesives containing different solvents [One-step (OS), Excite (EX) and Single Bond 2 (SB)] and temperature volatilization of adhesives (23 C; 40 degrees celsius). The exposed dentin will be demineralized in 10% phosphoric acid solution for 5 hours and then rinsed with water. In groups where PA will be applied, it will contact the dentin for 1 min and rinsed with distilled water. Adhesive systems (OS, EX, SB) will be applied according to the manufacturer's recommendations and with the group in question. After resin polymerization with Demetron 501, the slices will be stored in artificial saliva or in distilled water according to the group in question. For the mechanical testing (0.5 mm/min), the slices will be coupled to the mechanical testing machine (model V-1000 Vitrodyne, Chatillon, Greensboro, NC) being made immediate assessments of ME, after 1, 2, 3, 4 weeks and after 6 months on the same slice. The data obtained shall be submitted to the appropriate statistical analysis. (AU)
