Abstract

Will be held a series of sequential studies, in order to evaluate the use of glycerin as an additive in the treatment of grain for feeding to ruminants. On the grounds that glycerin can act in the process of gelatinization of cereal grains, increasing the susceptibility of this nutrient to ruminal degradation, these studies will determine how the glycerin can be used and the best method of treatment of these grains. The first part of the study (in vitro) is to determine the efficacy of glycerin in the processing of the starch with a further field study to evaluate the use of glycerol as additive in the treatment of grains on animal performance and carcass characteristics.
