Abstract

The present research results from the PhD project, named "Power over life: Marcuse and the Biopolitics", which intends to relate the Marcusean thinking with Foucaultian categories of biopower. Particularly, during the sponsored stage at UCLA, we will focus our studies on the Douglas Kellner´s perspective about this philosophical link. His inquiries on post-modernity as much as his approach with Marcusean perspective allow us to develop our investigation in a deeper way. From concepts as "technologies of domination" and "technologies of self" - that appear in Foucaultian structures of the genealogy of power and aesthetics of existence respectively - Kellner establishes a field of questions that adds Marcuse in contemporary debate of biopolitics. This movement is possible when Kellner points limits in the Foucaultian formulations, mainly in the questions of political resistance: elements that call for a dialectic of emancipation. (AU)
