Abstract

It is well described in the literature the interaction between the main hematological diseases (leukemia, lymphoma, and anemia) and neurological conditions. It is reported the most varied clinical conditions, such as brain hemorrhage, meningeal irritation, and paraneoplastic syndromes, in leukemias; optic atrophy, cerebellar ataxia, polyneuropathy, dementia or psychosis in B12 vitamin deficiency; among others. It is also known that the diagnosis or treatment of these cases is made, often without a protocol. Thus, we seek to make this work with a retrospective of the last 10 years on the interdisciplinarity between hematology and neurology at the Hospital das Clinicas of Botucatu's Faculty of Medicine(UNESP), evaluating the medical records concerning admissions to the hematology ward presenting with neurological problems. The most common causes of neurological evaluation will be described. It will be analyzed even those cases that progressed to death, proposing, if necessary, treatment protocols to prevent poor outcomes. Completing the work is expected to contribute to the advancement of medical science regarding the care and the improvement of the quality of life of patients with hematological diseases, sensitizing the medical teams of the country to the neurological complications of those diseases and their possible resolutions.(AU)
