Abstract

Phonological disorder has an heterogeneous manifestation and etiology, which presents an obstacle to therapy interventions. One of the main concerns about this disorder is its negative impact in literacy, given that metaphonological skills, essential in the acquisition and the development of reading and writing, are impaired in some subtypes of this disorder. Establishing which tests are able to detect the impairment of these skills and in which subtypes these skills are impaired can contribute to early diagnosis and to more effective clinical decisions. Objective: to analyze the performance of two groups of subjects with phonological disorder - Phonological Disorder with Otitis Media with Effusion and Phonological Disorder with Familial History - in tests which analyze metaphonological skills, and to verify the correlations between these skills and the scores of PCC-R and PDI of the subjects in Phonology test and the most productive types of phonological processes in each phonological subtype. Method: 30 subjects with phonological disorder with otitis media with effusion and 30 subjects with phonological disorder with familial history will be selected from the database of the Speech and Language Pathology Research Laboratory on Phonology (LIF-Phonology) of the Speech and Language Pathology Course of the School of Medicine, University of São Paulo (FMUSP) to take part on this research. We will use patient records in order to analyze phonology and metaphonological skill tests.(AU)
