Abstract

In the international literature, for different languages, studies that describe the atypical development of prosody are scarce, since there is a consensus that understanding enough how the development of prosody occurs in typical populations is in itself a challenge (PEPPÉ, 2009, 2018). In any case, efforts have been made to deal with the subject, since its urgency is recognized, in view of the implications for the evaluation and speech therapy. One of the findings of the international literature concerns the fact that children with other language disorders, which include the so-called speech sound disorders, are a potential group to develop atypical prosody (cf. PEPPÉ, 2018). In the particular case of Brazilian Portuguese, there are no reference studies on the atypical development of prosody. Given this descriptive need, considering the existing gap, this plan proposes the development of research at the master's level that aims to investigate the auditory perception of prosodic segmentation patterns in children with atypical phonological development, since the segmentation of utterances is a primordial function played by prosody (LADD, 1996, among others). The research will be developed through an experimental approach, with the application of two perception experiments. The results will bring results that will contribute to the field of Linguistics and, especially, to that of Speech Therapy.
