Abstract

The acquisition of prosodic skills throughout child development has been the subject of recent international studies, since, despite knowing that changes occur in the way children use and perceive prosody during the period of child development (CUTLER et al. , 1997; SNEDEKER and YUAN, 2008), there is a shortage of studies with reference data that point out what these changes are and in which age groups they occur (DIEHL and PAUL, 2009). Particularly, Brazilian Portuguese (BP) lacks studies of this nature. In this context, considering this gap, this plan proposes the development of research at the master's level that will aim to investigate and describe the development of prosodic perception skills in children with typical phonological development of different age groups, with special emphasis on the perception of the prosodic segmentation of linguistic utterances, since the segmentation of utterances is one of the main functions performed by prosody (LADD, 1996, among others). The research will be developed through an experimental approach, with the elaboration and application of two perception experiments being foreseen. The results obtained will bring results that will contribute both to the field of Linguistics and to the field of Speech Therapy.Key words:Language Acquisition; Speech Perception; Prosody; Prosodic Boundary; and Brazilian Portuguese.
