Abstract

This project aims to analyze prosody production and auditive perception on children's speech with typical and atypical phonological development in comparison with typcal adults speech. With that said, we want to find out similarities and/or differences among these three subject groups that could be understood as evidence of prosody acquisition process. The central hypothesis is that adults and children with typical and atypical phonological development behave differently when using phonetic cues that are important for information marking performed by prosody. If the hypothesis is correct, the results could show there are developmental processes of prosodic abilities, which would allow us to identify a gradient acquisition of prosody. In order to achieve this, we will apply three experiments, which one will be of production and two others of perception. We will analyze the results as per the integrated view between Prosodic Phonology and Intonational Phonology. In addition to contributions for the study of prosody, especially in children with typical and atypical phonological development, we foresee theoretical contributions for the study on the relationship between speech production and speech perception, intersection relevant for both the field of Linguistic Studies and for the field of Speech Therapy Studies.
