Abstract Problems at bedtime and frequent nocturnal awakenings are common in children, affecting approximately 20% to 30% of children. Such problems were classified as behavioral insomnia of childhood, can affect behavioral, cognitive, emotional and school children, in addition to affecting sleep, mood, and daytime functionality of their caregivers. Despite the importance of sleep for children's health, there is a lack of studies on the topic on the national scene. The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a behavioral intervention for insomnia child through a program aimed at parents. Participants 60 parents of children 1-5 years old who have behavioral problems of a sleep-related. Participants will be randomized to intervention and control groups. The intervention program will consist of five sessions in which parents receive education about the child's sleep, guidance on the establishment of schedules and routines for sleeping and for the use of techniques (extinction and positive reinforcement) to improve the time to sleep and reduction of nocturnal awakenings. Sociodemographic data of the control and intervention groups will be compared using the Student t test unpaired (continuous variable) or the chi-square test (categorical variable). Variables related to ratings of sleep and behavior will be compared using analysis of variance two-way repeated measures followed by multiple comparison tests when appropriate. | |
