Abstract

Early childhood is extremely relevant, because it is during this period that the development of different domains occurs. The quality of mother-child interaction acts as a predictor of child development, and may moderate by attenuating or aggravating negative effects of risk factors for developmental problems. The aim of the present study is to examine the effectiveness of the Strengthening Bonds program to strengthening positive mother-child interactions (responsiveness, reciprocity, and adaptive directivity) and increasing prosocial behaviors of children in the sample of mothers and children between 2 and 5 years, in groups differentiated by the presence of child behavior problems. The sample will consist of 40 mothers and their respective children, aged between two and five years old, whose families are linked to the Family Health Program or children enrolled in public or philanthropic schools in Ribeirão Preto. Data collection will involve three phases: pre-intervention assessment, intervention and post-intervention assessment. Mothers will participate in the Strengthening Bonds program, which involves filmed observation of the mother-child interaction, a face-to-face session, and video coaching. For analysis of the observation of the interaction of the mother-child will be applied the PARCHISY and Mother-Child Dyad Dynamics System. The child's behavior will be assessed by the Skills and Difficulties Questionnaire. Data will be analyzed using intragroup descriptive statistics (Pre- vs. Post-intervention), and between groups (differentiated by the presence of behavioral problems). Statistical data will be processed by the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS, version 25.0). The significance level adopted will be p d 0.05.Keywords: parenting; video coaching; child development. (AU)
