Abstract The Brazilian production of chicken meat presents a growing worldwide behavior, achieving by a significant improvement in the performance indicators, mainly due to the genetic improvement. New techniques of sequencing (next-generation sequencing) enable the generation of a larger number of sequence data and the identification of a larger number of mutations associated with the traits of interest. An experimental population of chickens was developed by EMBRAPA Swine and Poultry in a partnership with ESALQ/USP for genomic studies. Two F2 populations were developed (CTCT and TCTC) by reciprocal crosses between a non-inbred parental lines of broiler and layer chickens. The objective of this project is to sequence these two parental lines by the use of new sequencing technologies and identify polymorphisms (SNPs and insertions/deletions) in a region of the chromosome 3 between the markers ADL0371 and LEI0029, detected previously in QTL mapping studies, which showed a significant effect for fat deposition. Then, will be performed the functional annotation and the construction of a complete catalog of genomic variations of the target region. Therefore, the identification of polymorphisms in the target region and the expression of phenotypic traits such as the abdominal fat weight and percentage are very important in studies of poultry heritability and genetic improvement. | |
