Abstract

Objective: to compare the effect of immediate application of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and Laryngeal Manual Therapy (TML) on vocal quality and sense of self-reported musculoskeletal pain in individuals without vocal complaints. Methodology: We will study 60 subjects, of both sexes, without vocal complaints, aged between 18 and 45 years. After signing the Instrument of Consent, will answer all questions about age, occupation, possible vocal and laryngeal symptoms and musculoskeletal pain symptoms. Then will go through vocal register with vowel / a /, count from 1 to 20 and later to spontaneous speech perceptual analysis and acoustic. They would then be divided into two groups: Group 1 - 30 individuals who will receive the application of low frequency TENS, for 20 minutes, with symmetrical biphasic square pulse, phase of 200 us, 10 Hz frequency and motor threshold intensity (Dualpex equipment 961 - Quark), with electrodes positioned in the region of the trapezius muscle - upper fibers in the submandibular region and bilaterally with the individual at rest in the supine position, Group 2 - 30 individuals per TML will be held for 20 minutes in standing, sitting, according advocated by Mathieson et al (2009). After application of resource drawn, the same procedures are repeated initial assessment. The data will be statistically analyzed using parametric tests in order to compare data before and after application of TENS and TML, and to compare the groups.(AU)
