Abstract

The relationship between the intestinal microbiota and the production of short chain fatty acids are essential for maximizing the health of individuals. Cats are gaining more and more space in Brazilian homes, and evaluate the effects of prebiotics in the diet for these animals is necessary, since most studies are conducted in dogs and the results extrapolated to felines. Thus, this project aims to evaluate the effects of increasing levels of yeast cell wall (PCL) in diets for healthy adult cats on nutrient digestibility, intestinal microbiota and fecal short-chain fatty acids and amines biogenic. To do so it will be used 16 healthy adult cats, distributed in a randomized block design, consisting of four treatments: T0, T20, T40 and T60 (control, 0,2%, 0,4% and 0,6% respectively PCL). Data will be evaluated by the GLM function of SAS, having the averages been analyzed by simple polynomial regressions. It is noteworthy that is underway at the University of Sao Paulo, research funded by FAPESP (Process 10/51595-6), with carriers of cats with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), using the same diet and levels of proposed inclusion of PCL this project. Thus, it is possible to obtain important information about the effectiveness of yeast wall on intestinal parameters in healthy adult cats, as well as make comparisons between the two studies.Keywords: short-chain fatty acids, biogenic amines, feline, mannanoligosaccharide.
