Abstract

The PhD project which the BEPE program is linked, "Raman Spectroscopy and Molecular Dynamics of ionic liquids" process FAPESP 2011/22926-7, aims to study structural and dynamical properties of ionic liquids. Furthermore, the study of these systems allows to investigate fundamental questions in glass science, as the frustrated nucleation process and the formation of the so-called glacial state. The internship at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey with Prof. Edward Castner Jr. opens a perspective of collaboration, allowing to perform experiments that are inaccessible in Brazil. Measurements of small angle X-ray scattering and small angle neutron scattering, along the molecular dynamics simulations performed on the project, will obtain much information about the structural organization of these liquids. The experiments of multidimensional nuclear magnetic resonance, in addition to structural information, will allow obtaining dynamic information such as the diffusion coefficient of the ions. Thus, the stage will contribute significantly to the enrichment of the project with getting a bigger picture of information obtained from different experimental methodologies. (AU)
