Effect of Pilates Solo Method on Blood Pressure in Hypertensive Individuals

Abstract

Exercise as nonpharmacological treatment of various diseases has been widely stated today, however, there are few methods researched and shown to be beneficial for this population. This study will evaluate the effect of Pilates on blood pressure of hypertensive controlled individuals. Will be assessed approximately 40 controlled hypertensive individuals, sedentary and aged between 20 and 50 years of both sexes. Part of individuals is randomly maintained sedentary during the study. The other party will perform the exercises in Pilates twice a week, sixty minutes per session, for 16 weeks. Will be assessed the following variables: clinic and ambulatory blood pressure, heart rate, and perceived quality of sleep; degree of drowsiness level of anxiety, stress and depression; handgrip. These evaluations will be performed before and after training in both groups (kept sedentary and trained) to study the behavior of individuals and the variables of interest over time, checking the possible effect of Pilates. For this reason, the model will be used for analysis of variance with repeated measures and, when necessary, the method of the Bonferroni multiple comparisons.
