Abstract

Among the various systems responsible for the maintenance of eukaryotic cell physiology is the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS). UPS function is especially relevant in the aging context since its dysfunction is part of the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. This project's main objective is to better understand UPS regulation during the aging of Saccharomyces cerevisiae by using calorie restriction as a means to modulate the aging rate. A comprehensive characterization of UPS function, as well as evidence about its regulation in aging, will contribute toward the development of strategies or identification of targets for intervention in pathological processes, especially those associated with aging.(AU)
