Abstract

This project aims at identifying theoretical and methodological forms of analysis of the Cia. Club Noir's theatrical practice and the wide range of aesthetic elements used by them, considering the current separation between 'dramatic' and 'post-dramatic' theater productions. Facing this issue, we will attempt to investigate what Cia. Club Noir has been creating and how they do it, observing the relations among the creative process, the stagings ("As suplicantes", "Prometeu" and "Orestéias II"), and the discourse of the company. As a working hypothesis, although the company claims not to be 'post-dramatic', we consider that there is evidence (both in their theoretical discourse and their stagings) that they are a case of post-dramatic theatre. However, during their creative processes, some traditional practices (commonly associated with dramatic theatre) are regularly used. For this particular reason, we will investigate a possible definition of the Cia Club Noir's work as part of a hybrid zone which, nonetheless, does not apart from us from the idea of post-dramatic theatre. The objects of this research are: a) carefully classify the Cia Club Noir's work and, therefore, verify the acuity of the term 'post-dramatic theatre' promoted by Lehmann; b) discuss the general aspects of 'dramatic' and 'post-dramatic' theatres through an empirical approach; c) verify problems with the conveyance of procedures, critical reception, ways of production and the inclusion of the company in the market.(AU)
