Abstract

Some riser configurations used in ocean applications present a unilateral contact with the seabed. The contact region varies along time, once it depends on the movement induced to the riser by the floating unit, guided by the sea current and ocean waves. The soliciting loads determination in a configuration of this kind is a nonlinear problem due to contact and this may be taken into account in a riser model. The candidate postdoctoral project in Brazil contemplates a 3D dynamic beam model to represent the riser. The contact issue, however, is a very important subject and will be considered in a next step of the project, according to the schedule proposed to the postdoctoral in Brazil. In this project a "computational contact" trainee program was predicted. Indeed, this will be performed from January, 2013 to August, 2013. The objective is to study the "computational contact" topic in a world top ranked institution. There are many techniques for dealing with the contact problem and certainly the choice for the best or the more convenient technique is not straightforward. For that, it is necessary to know the different existenting strategies to make a good choice to be used in the postdoctoral program, in Brazil. Furthermore, the abroad experience in an excellence center will be a unique opportunity for the candidate. (AU)
