Abstract

The recent enactment of Law 11.430/2006 (also known as Maria da Penha Law), has substantially changed the legal classification of the criminalization of domestic violence in Brazil, changing procedures and treatment, in the police and legal spheres, of these offenses. This study intends to investigate the meanings, perceptions and the changes that the enactment of Law Maria da Penha brought to the police practice in the Women's Police Stations in São Paulo.
