Abstract

Population aging is a global phenomenon. Demographic transition is associated with the epidemiological transition, signaling an increase in chronic diseases. Among these diseases include the chronic kidney disease (CKD). Hemodialysis is one of the forms of treatment in advanced stages of CKD, being a difficult confrontation therapy, since undertakes physical, psychological, social and even family. The elder carrier CKD faces a sudden change in his experience, a painful treatment and the thought of death. All these factors contribute to frailty. The aim of this study was to assess the level of fragility of these seniors through the Edmonton Frail Scale (EFS). This is a descriptive, cross-sectional, to be held at the Department of Nephrology of São Carlos. Currently there are 65 elderly patients with CKD on hemodialysis. Older people who present the inclusion criteria defined in the study will be invited to participate in the study, about the research and its objectives, and any doubts resolved. Once obtained the consent of the subject prompted him to sign the Instrument of Consent and then completed the Instrument Characterization of Research Subjects, the Brazil Criterion (for socioeconomic classification) and EFS. The project is approved by the Ethics Committee of the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (Parecer 84/2012). (AU)
