Abstract

This Proposal was prepared to be developed during the next 36 months during the PhD course in Chemistry of de Francisco Nunes de Souza Neto in the major of Physical chemistry in the Graduate Program in Chemistry of the UFSCar-Federal University of São Carlos, with conclusion planned for July of 2015. The Brazilian elderly population is growing and the universal access to health program is a new challenge. New materials to fabricate prosthetic devices can improve significantly the live quality of this elderly population, especially in the case of polymers modified with silver for antimicrobial applications. The main purpose here is the synthesis, development, and characterization of new nanocomposite materials obtained by the insertion of silver nanoparticles synthesized by the Turkevich method in commercial acrylic matrixes. Nanoparticles will be synthesized with rigorous control of size and shape, and their effect on the thermal-mechanical properties of the nanocomposites will be evaluated considering their use for prosthetic prosthesis. The interface polymer-nanoparticles will be evaluated by solid-state NMR 13C (MAS e CP/MAS) and by transmission electron microscopy. It is expected to obtain a new nanocomposite material with potential antimicrobial action and with characteristics similar or superior to the commercial materials available.
