Abstract

The analysis of the influence of litho-structural conditions is of the utmost importance for understanding processes and dynamics of the river channels. The production of longitudinal profiles, together with the application of gradient index (RDE - Relationship Extension Slope x) along the Jacaré Pepira/SP river, allow us to identify anomalous zones and ephemeral baselevels present in the river channel. Also, it evidences their adaptation to the other physical variables, considering their ongoing search for the stability state. Based on the systemic conception and on the dynamic equilibrium theory, it's discussed the current and past state of the Jacaré-Pepira/SP river and the direct relationship of depositional, erosion and tectonic-structural processes with its floodplain - using geological and topographical maps, orbital and non-orbital images. Therefore, the river channel that runs along the Planalto Ocidental Paulista, with its headwaters on the reverse of sandstone-basalt cuestas, works as a response to structural and lithological conditions, as well as being a direct reflection of the diverse climatic rhythms perpetuated there.(AU)
