Abstract

This proposal is related to theoretical and numerical hydrodynamic research applied to offshore strucutres, which will be placed in the Numerical Offshore Tank (TPN-USP), that can provide all the support required to the research. The theme proposed has already been developed in a time domain linear bidimensional approach by Eng. Felipe Ruggeri in his master program. The extension to tridimensional problems is a theme developed by other student (FAPESP PROCESS 2010/08778-2) under the supervision of prof. Dr. Alexandre Nicolaos Simos and has already provided validated results. The numerical scheme adopted until now used low order approximation and it is being proposal the extension to higher order approximations concerning the numerical scheme and evaluation of non linearities and current effects concerning the physical problem. The motivation of this research is directly related to the laboratory, which has a time domain offshore simulator and nowadays need to transpose the results from frequency (obtained using a commercial software) to time domain, that solves only the linear and weakly non-linear hydrodynamic problem. There are problems such as monobuoys, multibodies simulation concerning large relative displacements and wave/current interaction which the strong non linearities can be very important and they are not considered properly nowadays in the simulator.
