Serum antioxidant status and serum oxidative stress in rats with periapical lesion alone or associated with diabetes

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of pulpal infection alone or associated with diabetes in the determination of total antioxidant, albumin, bilirubin and uric acid in rats. Will be used 40 rats divided into four groups of 10 animals each: 1) normal rats; 2) rats with pulpal disease; 3) diabetic rats; 4) diabetic rats with pulpal disease. Diabetes is induced by application of streptozotocin intravenously and confirmed in 24/48 hours subsequent evaluation by glucose. The pulp infection is induced by exposure of the maxillary right first molar to the oral environment. After 30 postoperative days the animals will be sacrificed and blood collected. With the blood tissue will be carried out biochemic'al tests for total antioxidant capacity, quantification of endogenous antioxidants albumin, bilirubin and uric acid, and determination of malonaldehyde (MDA). The maxillary tooth containing the pulp with the disease are removed and separated. The pieces will be processed in laboratory for evaluation by light microscopy to characterize the profile of the local disease in each animal. The tissue sections are stained with HE and evaluated by pre-established criteria by assigning scores to the microscopic events. The results obtained in hematological and histological analysis will be analyzed and compared in terms of statistical significance level of 5% (p <0.05). (AU)
