Abstract

Toxocariasis is a anthropozoonosis that occurs in various regions of the world that affects dogs and cats. These mammals are the definitive hosts geohelminto and the man is a eventual its host. Toxocariasis is a cosmopolitan disease and the prevalence studies show a wide variation. Several aspects of its epidemiology have yet to be clarified. It is known that toxocariasis is associated with two diseases of great importance, asthma and obesity and that both have high prevalence in our environment. There are no studies in the literature pointing out how these three diseases that involve inflammatory processes are involved. The present study aims to describe the prevalence and association of toxocariasis and its clinical manifestations in a population sample consisted of children 2-12 years. There will be a cross-sectional study nested in a cohort study. The population to be studied is composed of 200 children 2-12 years who are selected randomly in the neighborhood of Santa Monica in Campinas. The variables that will be part of this study are the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, health-related behaviors and health conditions. Will be calculated, the prevalence and prevalence ratios for each variable, and the incidence and relative risk for the cohort study. For the association of toxocariasis is the chi-square and logistic regression, with statistical significance level of 5%. The analyzes will be performed in SAS and Epi-info.
