Comparative study of two adhesives on the masticatory performance of denture wearers

Abstract

Denture adhesives, when correctly indicated, are widely used to improve the retention and stability, ensuring comfort for its users. The aim of this study will conduct a comparative study on conventional denture wearers, on the effect of using two denture adhesives (Ultra Corega Cream and Ultra Corega Powder) in relation to chewing performance. Patients will receive new conventional dentures and after the adjustment period after its installation, the sample (n = 50) will be randomly divided into two protocols. In sequential and alternating periods of 15 days, the sample will be assigned to the two types of proposed protocol: protocol 1 - use the adhesive 1 (Ultra Corega cream) for 15 days before testing followed by non-use of any adhesive (washout) over the next 15 days, and using the second adhesive (Ultra Corega powder) for 15 days prior to testing; protocol 2 - using the adhesive 2 for 15 days before testing, followed by not using any kind of adhesive (washout) over the next 15 days, and use of the adhesive 1 for another 15 days before testing. The chewing performance will be evaluated by the method of sieves in each of the steps of the study. The results will be tabulated and submitted to appropriate statistical test for paired samples according to adherence to normality.
