Abstract

This research project sets out study Grima, a martial arts game practiced with a machete, by Afro-Descendants from the Pacific Region of Colombia. The data will be based on observations and analyses of the artistic and pedagogical work developed by the master Ananías Caniquí with his of students in the Mazamorreros Community, in the city of Buenos Aires, Cauca, Colombia. It aims to investigate the specific characteristics of Grima, its history, its symbolic value, as well as the different ways in which the art is transmitted in this rural community and what this reveals about the particular form that these people construct their teaching practices. The transmission process of the artistic knowledge is understood as a hierarchical relationship between master and apprentice, where the first is the keeper of knowledge inherited from his ancestors who he seeks to share with another who will also, later, become a master of this art. It is also understood that the said process of transmission may occur in several manners in different learning spaces. Equally, this transmission, which implies creative work by human beings in its historic action, may also be a process of renovation or transformation of the knowledge in question.Key words: Grima, Game, Ethno-education, Afro-Colombian Culture, Cultural Dynamic, Art Education, Theater Pedagogy.
