Abstract

The research will discuss the configuration of the Brazilian and the Argentinian publishing fields in the 1990s and 2000s, in a comparative perspective, focusing on the practices and representations from the "independent publishers" that started their activities in this period. The main goals are to understand how the space of disputes among the book publishing houses in both countries changed since their democracies were recovered and the entrance of foreign capitals in the publishing sector; and how this "independent publishers" place themselves in such context. The methodology in quali-quantitative and includes: the mapping of the book publishing sector in both countries; the investigation of trajectories, relationships and position-takings in the "independent publishing" subfield; and semistructured interviews with a sample of agents from this universe.
