Zinc and phytogenics additives for meat quails

Abstract

The goal of this project is to evaluate the effect of zinc levels and phytogenic additives on health, intestinal histomorphometry, cecal microbiology and enzyme activity in the pancreas of european quail, for meat production. Two trials will be conducted, during the period from 1 to 42 days old. A test will be performed in a thermoneutral environment and the other in cyclic heat stress. The experimental design of these studies will be randomized in a factorial 4X2 (zinc-methionine levels: 100, 125, 150 and 175% x 0.0% and 0.2% additives phytogenic: thyme extract - Thymus vulgaris oregano extract - Origanum vulgare, turmeric extract - Curcuma longa L., and cinnamon extract - Cinnamomum spp) with 8 treatments and five replications. Will be evaluated in two studies: relative weights of spleen, bursa, pancreas and liver, histomorphometry of Bursa of Fabricius, count and differential leukocyte, heterophil: lymphocyte ratios, antibody titer against Newcastle disease, production of hydrogen peroxide from peritoneal macrophages, plasma levels of zinc and triglycerides, count cecal lactic acid bacteria and E. coli, inhibitory activity of cecal lactic acid bacteria and activity of pancreatic enzymes.
