Abstract We aim to perform research in the area of non-equilibrium statistical physics. We will focus our attention on the following topics: (a) description of the dynamics of biological populations by means of stochastic dynamics in which the temporal evolution is governed by a master equation; (b) study of phase transitions in irreversible systems. We will consider spatially structured and stochastic models to describe: (I) dynamics of propagation of different types of epidemics; (II) diverse types of dynamics of coexistence of competitive species. In both cases, we will consider interacting biological elements distributed in non-homogeneous spaces. We will analyze, by means of methods of the statistical physics, non-equilibrium states and possible phase transitions in these models. Regarding the study of phase transitions, we will investigate universal behaviors and seek to identify classes of universality in these irreversible systems. (AU) | |
