Abstract

Despite of what many people think, some dermatological diseases are associated with high rates of morbimortality. The rapid identification of those conditions, so that the appropriate therapy is initiated rapidly, leads to a reduction of these rates. However, there are not many studies about dermatosis as direct or basic cause of the death. This study seeks to identify dermatologic diseases as direct cause, associated cause or contributing cause of death, as well as potential risk factors associated. From the agreement between the Department of Dermatology Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo and the Fundação Sistema Estadual de Análise de Dados (FSeade), the codes representing dermatoses in ICD 8, ICD 9 and 10 will be sought in the mortality database of the State of São Paulo, obtained from the information contained in the declarations of death in the period of 1970 to 2010.(AU)
