Abstract

This research aims to understand the specifics of Brazilian conservative political thought between the years 1834 to 1843. Political disputes after the abdication in 1831 were intense. The beginning of the year to research, 1834, is a milestone both for the adoption of constitutional reform, the Additional Act, as the death of D. Pedro I in September, dismantling and replacing the restorationist political alliances in new terms. The political arrangements would be redone. In the new design, men who articulated the conservative party were seeking space. Thus, we will seek to investigate the indeterminacy key policy in these years of construction of the National State, trying to rescue the main discussions, encounters, and formulations more recurrent in the documentation produced by conservatives - press reports and management, along with discussions of the Chamber of Deputies, considered a political representative important for understanding the nineteenth-century national policy (our goal is to understand how the legislature appeared also represented in the conservative press). Studying the relationship between these three spaces - the press, parliamentary annals, and management reports - and the dialogue established between them will enable us to understand the movement of political ideas and the process of formation of a political vocabulary of the period.
