Abstract

Our doctoral research aims to analyze the preservationist policy in SPHAN at the time of the acting of Luís Saia as regional director of São Paulo, trying to understand the criteria used to select, preserve and list buildings. In order to do so, this research will check the possible links between the preservation policy in Brazil and the Italian preservationist policies in the period - 1930-1975. Beyond that, it will analyze the interventions of architectural restoration undertaken by the architect within the context of ideals of SPHAN, verifying the criteria that guided these interventions and the influence of international recommendations on restoration, checking the similarities between these criteria and the theories and methodology in restoration in evidence in Italy, in the period between 1930 - 1975, developed by Gustavo Giovannoni (1873-1947), Cesare Brandi (1906-1988) and Roberto Pane (1897-1987).
