Abstract

This proposal presents a postdoctoral research to be developed at Laboratory of Electrical Energy Systems, Department of Electrical Engineering, Engineering School of Sao Carlos, University of Sao Paulo. The applicant, Ulisses Chemin Netto, under supervision of professor Denis Vinícius Coury, presents the research project ``A Real Time Co-Simulation Framework for Smart Grids'', requests appraisal of Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo - FAPESP. This research is associated to project FAPESP \#2010/01690-2. The new model of power system, designed with digital technology and communication networks, allows a more integrated and advanced operation, improving the reliability and efficiency of the system. This research will investigate how to simulate simultaneously the behaviour of power system and a communication network, making possible the analysis of a variety of subjects, such as, cybersecurity, interoperability between devices, reliability and performance for each choosen solution. Will be studied the integration between the Real Time Digital Simulator and Opnet Modeler to simulate, in real time and closed loop, a power system and a communication network. This integration will allow carry out complex laboratory experiments, which contribute in the development of new protection algorithms, wide area protection system, smart meters, best adjust of protection functions, type test of new model of intelligent electronic device and enhance students learning.
