Abstract

The aim of this project is to focus the legal recognition of paternity in the laws, public policies and the narratives of the subjects to which these policies are addressed in order to understand how the kinship relations are articulated in terms of care, affection and obligation. Considering the laws about paternal recognition and those ones that establish that adult (Children should help and assist aging parents, I intended to analyze how the relations between fathers, mothers and children are legally regulated in terms of patrimonial rights as well as moral and affective obligations. In this post-doc project, the intention is to deepen discussions announced in my PhD thesis, presenting new analytical questions: how the reciprocal duties and rights of fathers, mothers and children are defined in the laws addressed to children and to aging parents? What is meaning of judicialization process when the legal rights are claimed by adult children or by elderly parents? How the definitions of maternal, paternal and filial rights and duties are influenced by gender relations? The research will be conducted through a qualitative methodology, including ethnographic observation, interviews and documentary research on the laws and debates about the initiatives to promote legal recognition of paternity and the rights of elderly parents.
