Abstract

Cosmic ray with energy on the GeV range are modulated in the vicinity of the Earth by interplanetary structures like magnetic clouds. The interplanetary magnetic structures affect specially the diffusion and convection of cosmic ray. Thanks to the simultaneous observation of secondary cosmic ray (muons) in different places on the Earth surface, it is possible to reconstruct the spatial distribution of the primary cosmic ray in the interplanetary medium in the vicinity of the Earth. The aim of this project is to find the geometry and orientation of magnetic clouds observed in the interplanetary medium from 2006 to 2012 using combined observations of the four muon detectors from the Global Muon Detector Network. The methodology consists on correcting atmospheric effects on muon observation, deriving the spatial distribution of cosmic ray (anisotropy vector), its gradient and finally, comparing with cosmic ray transport simulation results to infer its geometry and orientation.
