Abstract Electrolyte-gated organic field-effect transistors (EGOFETs) are ultra-sensitive devices that have been attracting much attention in aqueous-medium sensing due to their low-operational voltages and intrinsic signal amplification. EGOFETs are also suitable platforms either for point-of-care tests and real-time monitoring of many analytes of medical interest. Here, we propose the developing of EGOFETs able to detect different neurotransmitters and cytokines, key biomarkers for diagnostics and/or prognostics of spinal cord injury (SCI). The real-time monitoring of such species during a transient process is a crucial issue on medical applications for a correct healing of the injured site. The development of EGOFET biosensors for such purpose can contribute to the acquisition of the knowledge and the technology to improve studies on SCI recovery. (AU) | |
